During the past 10 years, the one great change in many of our lives is the Internet.  More and more people are finding almost everything via this marvelous tool.  Even if the initial contact from a potential adopter doesn’t come from an Internet search, often follow-ups and research does.

Thanks to the Needle Nose Crew’s wonderful webmaster, Phil Epler, we have slowly progressed to a point where we depend on our web site.  Our members can be informed of our current and future events.  These members can also post pictures of their own wonderful greyhounds.  Potential adopters can find listings for the California adoption organizations, national contact numbers and web sites which help with greyhound adoption searches.

Due to hectic schedules, our site has been very static over the past few years.  We have decided the time has come for us to improve and expand the information and help that is offered.   So, over the next three to six months we will be in a constant mode of editing, adding and, we hope, improving the NNC site.

Our Coming Events section will add addresses, and we hope maps to show locations.  We hope this will make it easier for everyone to find our shows and encourage more volunteers to join in with our greyhound promotion events. COMPLETED.

The Greyt Links section changes are already underway with the addition of maps to direct potential adopters to a greyhound rescue group that is closest to their location. The foregoing phase COMPLETED. There will also be a sub-section added which will reflect the same things we tell folks when they first call for information about greyhound rescue and “how it works”.  This new sub-section will encourage those who are interested in adopting to contact more than one group for information on how the individual group operates, what "greys" might be available and how they can participate in activities.

The Greyt Art section has been removed.  We still offer the small David French prints which can be purchased at main NNC events.  However, we have found that moving the larger prints around from one show to another is not the best idea for the well being of each print.  We encourage you to attend one of our larger shows in order to purchase a smaller print.  If you are interested in a large print, please feel free to contact GreytArt.com.  These wonderful people carry a full line of the French Prints.

Although the Greyt Gallery has been in existence for some time now, many of you have either not known about it or have not gotten around to sending our webmaster pictures of your greys.  We encourage you to participate with pictures of your own wonderful hounds.  Remember, those who are looking to adopt enjoy seeing pictures of and reading stories from those who have already adopted a grey.  They want reassurance that adopting is a good thing to do. Others singing the praises for their own greys is often just what is needed

We will, of course, continue to add our Needle Nose Notes each month.  These past issues are on the web site for everyone to look through for articles that will give them information concerning their own greyhound needs.  In addition, these past issues again help potential adopters see the wonders and joy of having a greyhound join their own family.

Last but not least, we will be adding a new page to our site.  This addition will be a referral page, (Greyt Resources.) Many phone calls are made and answered giving out information about reading materials, local veterinarians, pet sitters and/or kennels, obedience trainers, alternative health care providers, etc.  Needless to say, this is the web section which will take the longest to get set up and running.  Those of us deeply involved with the activities of the NNC certainly have our own recommendations to make and will use those referrals to get started with this page.  However, we ask that each of you send over your own recommendations.  We will not put any providers or services on our web site unless they come with glowing praises from our own volunteers.  This is not a page for commercial endeavors to advertise.  It will be by and for our volunteers and potential adopters to use as a tool.  So if you have someone you’d like to see added to this page, please send the information over to gogreys@juno.com.  We’ll investigate all referrals and add them as quickly as time allows…in between events, newsletters and our own schedules.

Many thanks again to Phil Epler for his wonderful work on our web site.  Also, thanks to Joy Moss who edits and issues our monthly newsletter.  Time and time again, we hear about those who have used our web site and received our newsletter.  They are delighted to have information about greyhounds and often pass on our website address and/or newsletter copies to those they meet who are interested in adopting a greyhound.  We hope that you all will step up and contribute time at events, web site pictures, referral information and articles and pictures for our newsletter.  After 10 years, we know what we do works…greyhounds are adopted by meeting and talking with Needle Nose Crew volunteers.  Let’s plan and enjoy the next 10 years.
