SUMMER BREAK? By Karyn Zoldan I want to escape the Tucson heat and spend a few weeks in the So Cal area with my 2 hounds and would happily opt to hound/house sit for 1 or 2 hounds. No payment required as it would give us a place to stay, and I would take care of house and hound/s. I adopted my first greyhound in 11/98 and my second 12/99 from GPA Orange County/Greater Los Angeles. Painter will be 10 in July, and Lily is 6-1/2. Call 520-318-1222 or contact me at www.bridgemarketing.com. We moved to Arizona in 9/00 but still miss the marine layer!MAGNATHERAPY COLLAR By Kristi Mattauch Recently,I purchased magnet bracelets for my 89-year old grandmother, and for a friend who had been in 2 car accidents. I had no idea if they would work; in fact, I was very skeptical. My grandmother tried the bracelets and wasn't sure if they worked until she showered and forgot to put them back on. She told me by the second day she was having pain and wouldn't take off her bracelets again. My friend removed his bracelet to operate some equipment and forgot to put it back on. By the second day he was feeling the pain also. So, I decided that these magnets must work. I have another dear friend, Holmes, and even though he cannot tell me, I know he has some pain. I went online and found a company in the UK that sold magnatherapy dog collars. For 20 bucks and free shipping I figured it was worth a try. I thought I noticed a difference in Holmes' activity, but I was afraid it was just wishful thinking. But then... Holmes lost his magnet collar during his nightly ritual of looking in the bushes for rabbits, rats, and possums. We couldn't find his collar for approx. 3 weeks. Holmes had slowed down again. He would stand and bite at Pacer when she ran by instead of chasing her. He was once again lying down very carefully on his bed(s) instead of plopping down. I realized the collar worked for Holmes too. We found the collar, and once again Holmes is chasing Pacer in the yard. I wanted to pass this information on, and if it is a secret, I want everybody who has a former athlete to know about it. I'm sure Holmes will be eternally greytful for his magnet collar.

TENNESSEE WALTZ? By Richard Monroe Boyd's Bull is our third Grey. We returned from a trip to Jackson, a town about 50 miles away from here where we do some of our major shopping, to find him locked in our back yard. Our neighbors found him running loose and put him there, knowing we had Greys. We found the former owner who had sold him the day before. The new owner thought Bull was too big for the house and just turned him out. After hearing this we bought him, and "fixed him". He has adapted well with the rest of the dogs, except for growling when one of the others touches him when he is lying down. Bull and a couple of our other dogs like to bark at some of our other animals. We have 11 goats (one belongs to Darlene's mom), two cats and a half interest in six cows (one of which is pregnant). The goats and one cow are on our property (we have one acre) and the other five cows are on part of the 17 acres owned by Darlene's mom and step-father that joins us on three sides. Marie and Prince have adjusted very well to life here in Tennessee, as have all the others. They have a nice back yard and large basement to lounge in. Marie even took a swim in our pond down near the barn one day, and seemed to enjoy it. Retirement is fun, even with all the house remodeling!
SHOW OFF YOUR GREYS on-line By Doris Lewinson & Roxane Kobalka We discovered a new website called: www.dogster.com. This is a site that lets you post a photo and info about your dog. It is free of charge to use the site. We put Calamity's photo online and a write-up about how she came to live with us. Let's add all the greyhounds we can to Dogster. It may encourage others to adopt these fine animals.SHOW OFF YOUR GREYS in person By Joy Moss Every so often we like to remind everyone how important you are to greyhound rescue efforts. Needle Nose Crew volunteers gather at different venues, almost every weekend (as you can see in the Calendar of Events). We promote all greyhound adoption groups, and everyone is welcome, no matter which group you adopted from. Volunteers are able to compare notes on greyhound issues, and brag to interested people about how wonderful our companions are. It’s amazing that many people have never seen a greyhound, and don’t know how great ex-racers are.

If you can’t join us, please consider an outing with your greys to a park or a beach. Some shopping centers and farmers’ markets welcome dogs; before you go check to make sure dogs are allowed. Carry your group’s business cards, or Needle Nose Crew cards, to hand out to interested people. (And make sure you’re equipped to pick up after your grey!) Every time you take your dog for an outing, or just for a walk in your neighborhood, you are promoting greyhound rescue.
